Shenzhen Third People's Hospital (a Class A tertiary research hospital administered by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government and a designated Shenzhen Medical Insurance hospital) is located at 29 Bujibulan Road, Longgang District, Shenzhen. The current president is Lu Hongzhou. In 1985, Shenzhen Third People's Hospital's predecessor, Shenzhen Donghu Hospital, opened. In 1996, the Shenzhen Institute of Liver Diseases was established. In 2000, the hospital's renovation and expansion project was approved. In February 2003, it became the designated hospital for the treatment of SARS in Shenzhen. In January 2004, it was renamed "Shenzhen Third People's Hospital" and relocated to 29 Bulan Road, Longgang District. In 2008, the hospital was designated the Shenzhen Branch Laboratory of the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases of the University of Hong Kong.
